Fortinet Architects The Convergence Of Firewall And SASE Services

Many solution providers are charting a path of reimagining SASE services, and it is a logical evolution. Fortinet’s vision of the convergence of the firewall and SASE services is designed to address this challenge, and the company is also anticipating future customer needs. As private AI adoption grows, Fortinet is offering its SASE Outpost as a flexible deployment feature with the FortiGate 1200G firewall series that extends cloud-delivered SASE enforcement and data processing directly into an on-premises environment while remaining centrally managed from the cloud. It inspects and processes traffic locally, instead of a public cloud point of presence, to manage data residency within the same management plane. Additionally, with FortiGate configured as a SASE Outpost within a customer-controlled environment, it can also act as a SASE point of presence directly.

These are a compelling set of features. Highly regulated industries can take advantage of the benefits of cloud management, while ensuring data and infrastructure sovereignty through a local breakout. This architectural design facilitates dramatically improved visibility and the consistent application of zero-trust security policies across both cloud-delivered and customer-controlled-environments. It also does not come at a trade-off in performance.
